Services in Support of Indian Dance Activities
Although performances and dance classes are Rangashree's main activities, we want to help develop the field of Indian dance in our community. We're interested in contributing however we can, to raise the caliber of Indian dance performances, to make Indian dances more accessible outside the Indian community, and to increase appreciation for Indian dance arts. We're eager to collaborate with other artists, including artists from other traditions, who share our approach to the arts, to reach new audiences. There may be opportunities to serve these goals in ways we haven't yet imagined, so we're open to suggestions.
Here are a few areas where we have found our assistance welcome:
- Dance Costumes - making them available for rent or helping dancers obtain them from India
- Choreography - from adding new items to the repertoire of Bharatanatyam dancers or folk dance groups, to tailoring compositions to the specific strengths of dancers
- Lecture Demonstrations - to introduce new audiences to Indian dances or give familiar audiences a deeper appreciation for aspects of the dance
- Workshops - to expose dancers from other traditions to Indian dance, or for intensive instruction in specific areas for those experienced in Indian dance
